Chairman's Introduction / Welcome to ARACON Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes, Director Bunker Events Ltd / Petrospot Ltd |
||
SESSION ONE: INDUSTRY OUTLOOK: THE VIEW FROM THE CLOSE OF A TUMULTUOUS YEAR
IMO 2020 was set to be the headline focus for shipping and the marine fuels sectors this year but the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in unforeseen, deep and lasting changes for global trade, national economies and all industries which, in turn, have severely impacted shipping’s day-to-day business. This session looks at what the future may hold for the shipping and refining sectors in the short to medium term, and how long the downturn in bunker demand may continue – with a sharp focus on the ARA region.

SESSION THREE: FUEL QUALITY – IMO 2020, BUNKER DISPUTES – AND IS ISO 8217 FIT FOR PURPOSE?
The industry has now had almost a year to assess the IMO 2020-compliant very low sulphur fuel oils (VLSFO). There have been quality problems with these fuels, and we may still be on a learning curve over issues such as stability and shelf life. This session assesses what 2020 has taught us in relation to VLSFOs – not forgetting marine gasoil and high sulphur fuel oil. It also considers whether IMO 2020 has resulted in an anticipated spike in bunker disputes and if the pressure is growing for a revision of ISO 8217.
